Tuesday, May 3, 2022 - Packer Day/Breeding Stock Sale
The bull top was $2150 with the best end selling from $1650-$2150. 60 pairs topped at $2500 with the overall quality not as appealing as last month' sale. The younger cows with calves sold mostly from $1750 to $2400. Middle aged to older cows with calves at side traded from $1675 and down.
3rd period bred cows which will most likely calve this summer and are not real popular this time of year. The bulk of these found new homes from $1150 to $1600. A larger number of 2nd period cows were offered tonight with the true fall calvers, those with exact calving dates had far and away the most interest. The bulk of these ranged in price from $1200-$1500 with the balance from $1175 and down. A handful of 1st period bred cows sold from $1325 and down.
418 slaughter cattle today including 195 fed steers and heifers sold steady on a 151.59 top. Demand on the heavier, high choice and prime cattle remains very strong.
Another heavy run of slaughter cows traded fully steady on the boners and cutters, but the breakers were mostly 1.00-2.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 2.00 higher with a better top end than last week.
