Fairview Sale Barn Special Cow Sale January 7, 2020

A few cow calf pairs topped from $1000 to $1525 with the rest under a $1000.

Bred heifers had a top of $1675 for 9 head of very fancy black white faces. Other top sellers with true calving dates and sire information sold from $1400 to $1650. Average quality, went from $1150 to $1300. Smaller in size, and anything with minimal sire and calving information brought $1000 and down.

3 and 4 year olds brought $1300-$1625 for the best. Average quality sold from $1050 to $1250, and the rest $1000/down.

5-6 year olds topped from $1200-$1500 with average at $1000-$1150, and the rest at $950/down.

7-8 year olds brought $1050-$1300, average $850-$1000, and the rest $800/down.

9’s through short and solid sold from $925-$1075 for the top end with average from $700-$900 and the rest a small premium to slaughter price.

Aged and broken mouth cows sold with a small premium to slaughter price for the best and at slaughter price for the rest.

 

The new year started with a loud bang as receipts totaled over 100 head including 750 slaughter cattle and 450 replacement cows for the bred sale.  Choice steers and heifers topped at 127.50 which was mostly steady with last week.

Cull cow numbers continue to be large even though we've turned the page to 2020!  Demand continues to be surprisingly good even with the extra numbers.  The overall trend was steady to 1.00 lower with our last market on Dec. 31.
