Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - Packer Day/Breeding Sale

The June cow sale consisted of 108 pairs, 200 bred cows and 14 breeding bulls.

Young cows 4 and under  with calves topped at $1900 with the top end selling from $1500 to $1900.  Next cut ranged from 1025 to 1475.  Middle-aged pairs  5-8 years with calves at side topped at $1925 with the bulk selling from $1350 to $1850  Less desirable middle-aged cows ranged from $1050 to $1300.

Older cows & calves sold from $1325 and down except for a group that brought $1475.

Bred cows sold with good demand on cows set up for fall calving and moderate demand for cows in 2nd & 3rd periods without definite calving dates.

Top end of these fall calvers sold from $1250 to $1450.  Middle cut were marked from $1000 to $1250.

Other bred cows in the 2nd or 3rd period sold from $1100 to $1400 on cows 5 years & younger with middle-aged bred cows ranging from $900 to $1100.  Older or smaller framed cows or ones with bad dispositions were slower to find new homes and brought $900 and down.

16 breeding bulls topped at $2500 with several of the purebred bulls with eye appeal ranging from $1600 to $2400

 

309 slaughter cattle including 122 fed steers & heifers that sold mostly 1.00-2.00 higher as all buyers participated.  Top was 116.00/dwt.

127 slaughter cows & bulls sold with good demand.  Even though their seems to be adequate numbers still moving, packers are bracing for fewer numbers of slaughter cows to be available as we move into mid summer.
