Tues., April 7, 2020 - Packer Day & Breeding Stock Sale
Today’s slaughter
sale consisted of 75 cull cows and 10 bulls.
The cow market which has weathered
the price fluctuations more consistently
than the fed steer & heifer market was
mostly steady with the last couple of weeks.
Not as many high yielding cows were
in the offering but several of the better
yielding cows still brought in excess of
60.00/Cwt.
Cull bulls topped at
87.00 with the bulk selling from 77.00 to
87.00.
The monthly bred cow &
pair sale consisted of 73 pairs and 85 bred
cows.
Black and BWF cows in the 3rd
period had the most interest with smaller
framed and colored up cows slower to find
new homes.
Top end of the 3 to 6 year old 3rd
periods sold from $1275 to $1550 and the
middle-aged 6 to 8 year olds sold from $1000
to $1350 in the 3rd period.
Older cows $1050 & down.
Sale feature were some
2 year old heifer pairs from some reputable
producers.
Top pairs sold from $2,000 to $2400
with nice size calves at side.
3 & 4 years with calves at side
topped at $2100 and middle to older pairs
topped at $1675.
Even with all the uncertainty in our
world of agriculture, this sale proved that
when cattle are presented right, they
can still bring top prices.
