Tues., June 4, 2019 - Packer Day-Breeding Stock
203 breeding bulls, cow/calf pairs and bred cows went before a very small
crowd. The tractors are running everywhere and the farthest thing from any
farmer's mind right now is buying cows. The crowd was sparse at best and
at this time of year it wouldn't have been much better even without
all the rain and late planting as nearly all the cows presented were late calving from spring calving producers. The spring calving period is over and its hard to find anyone who wants to calve in the summer time heat and bugs. Not many cows were bred for true fall calving. |
||||
Four brought $1780 to $2000 and the rest were $1400 and down. Nearly
everyone has had his bull or a while and these sales were surprisingly
good considering. | ||||
38 cow/calf pairs brought $1175-$1470 for the best, average were $900-$1100
and the rest $850/down.
155 bred cows sold and the market for all was not much above slaughter
price for the reasons stated previously. A small premium to slaughter price for the better ones was the word
of the day. Very few brought over $1000 with the very best selling from
$1000-$1200. Average quality
and size brought $800-$975.
The low end in quality and size sold at $750/down. |
315 slaughter cattle sold today. Fed cattle were $2-$3 lower with buyers very conscious of grade as the spread has incresaed to $17.00 which is $4 great than a week ago. Cull cows were strong on all grades, $2-$3 higher in spots. The slaughter cow run was large due to many of the cows intended for the bred sale in the evening didn't quality. Several were open, some were way too fat or much too big, others had bad attitudes, faulty bags, or bad feet & were weighed for slaughter. Bulls were $4-$5 higher.
