Tues., April 2, 2019 - Packer Day/Breeding Stock Sale
Cow Sale - 4-2-19
Cow/calf pairs had heifer pairs at $2000-$2400 for the top selling and $1650-$1950 for most the rest with a few lesser bringing less. 3-6 year old pairs brought $1750-$2000 for the best and $1250-$1620 for the rest. Older pairs were $1100/down.
Bred cow prices were influenced by the lack of feed and slow growing grass. Several producers sold because they are out of feed, and many would be buyers also have no feed and with grass a long time away, buying enthusiasm wasn't great. 2nd stage fall calving cows were especially negatively affected by the lack of feed and the late spring. Buyers also backed off from the huge cows 1600# and up of which were several.
Bred heifers sold from $1400-$1700 for the best, average were $1000-$1300, and the rest were $950/down.
The best 3-4 year old 3rd period cows brought $1350-$1500, average were $1000-$1275, and the rest $975/down.
The 3rd period 5-6 year old cows were $1100-$1525 for the best and $1000/down the rest.
A few of the 7-8 year olds brought $925-$1250 with the older ones selling much lower and many barely broke slaughter price.
