Tues., December 4, 2018 - Packer Day-Breeding Stock
A very good crowd was in attendance with moderate buyer interest and takers for everything at a price. The older cows were much cheaper as the slaughter market is the lowest in years. Therefore, buyers looking for older short term cows have little competition from the packers. The weather and scarcity of good hay are also factors in cow prices right now but things should improve with the freeze up and typically as it usually does after the 1st of the year.
19 pairs sold with 4-6 year old black pairs with those weighing 1320-1650# bringing $1150-$1300 and the rest $1050/down
184 bred cows sold and consisted of 90% 2nd periods with very few 1st or 3rd periods.

The fed market for steers & heifers was higher compared to the last test two weeks ago by 3.00 for most grades. The top was 118.50 with the practical market for solid choice 113.00 to 115.50. Several high yields brought from 116.00 to 118.50! Low yielding choice sold mostly from 110-.00-112.50. Mixed grades sold 109.00-111.00 and select 108.00/down
