1-27-18 Bred Cow Market Overview
Before a standing room only crowd on an absolutely perfect day for a cattle auction, 269 head sold in today’s bred cow sale for heifers and other young cows. Demand was great and the bidding competition could not have been better. All of these high quality cows will be spring calvers with tight calving windows. The run consisted of 180 bred heifers and 89 cows. Most of the cows were from two herd dispersions from long time producers who were outstanding cattlemen. Age and injury put them out of business.
The 180 heifers were extra fancy weighing an average of 1235# with some topping 1300#. 171 black heifers brought from $1750 to $2100 averaging $1950.00. The few colored heifers brought from $1450 to $1800. The 93 Kocher heifers averaged $1955.00 and the 79 Lowery heifers $1926.00.
The young mature cows were very much in demand. The 3 year olds averaged $1991 with a $2175 top, 4 year olds averaged $2085 with a $2175 top, 5-6 year olds averaged $1892 with a $2000 top. A few 7 year olds and up sold from $1275 to $1525.
The next feeder special is Thursday, February 1st. There are several consignments of calves with quality to burn. Sale starts at 12:00.
The next bred cow special is Tuesday February 6th at 5:00.
