Thursday, November 30, 2017 - Feeder Special

1765 feeder cattle were offered to  very good buyer attendance today with the weather perfect for moving cattle.  The sale featured both weaned/vaccinated cattle and those that were neither and often still bulls.  The difference in price between the two classes was very noticeable as some of the better groups of un-weaned, vaccinated and neutered.  It pays to wean and do the work, especially on the better quality calves.  vaccinating and weaning reduces the risk of sickness and most order buyer's customers only want that kind.  Many backgrounders won't bid on them, and more and more farmer feeders will only buy them if they are cheap enough offset the risk.

Several buyers today were turned off by the amount of flesh carried by several groups which were weaned then pushed on a hot ration.  Fat calves have a lot fewer takers.  Greener cattle were many times more popular than the fleshy ones and prices reflected this.  Most of the calves at the bottom of the price listings below were fleshy.
