Thurs. - March 17, 2016 - SRegular Sale/Easter Lamb Sale

290 feeder cattle went before an eager crowd of buyers. There was strength in all weights and classes and as stated grass is right around the corner, weather for moving cattle is perfect, and the Merc is a whole lot friendlier. The usual optimism of the cattleman has been rekindled giving reason for that optimism for a change. 9 baby calves weighing from 70# to 110# lit the candle early selling from $210 to $510 per head. The best steers and heifers under 400# brought from $192 to $235. The better 4 and 5 weight steers sold from $181 to $215 with heifer mates going for $156 to $178. 6-wts had steers from $170 to $190 and heifers from $150 to $168. Bigger cattle were too few in number for a market test.

Yesterday was the annual Easter lamb sale for the lighter ones for 55# down to 30#. It was a very active affair with 30 to 40 pounders bringing from $217 to $225 per pound. The 40 to 50 pounders ranged from $220 to $235 and the 50# to 55# at $235 to $237. The bigger lambs sell later for the Greek Easter.

The next feeder special is next Thursday the 24th and will feature a nice run of calves and yearlings.

Our next breeding stock sale will be Tuesday April 5 at 5:00 with 17 reputation breeding bulls from Johnson Brothers and over 100 cow/calf pairs from owners that do things right.
