1461 cattle sold in today’s auction which featured 12 full pot loads of yearling steers and heifers. These were offered to a very optimistic and aggressive group of buyers. The rest of the run consisted of smaller groups of top yearlings, several large groups of fancy calves, and the usual smaller groups of each. Rains kept most farmers out of the fields and a good crowd showed up at the sale barn. The rains also kept the positive outlook for a good grazing season in place as the grass is ready to explode with some warmer weather.
Sale barn runs will sharply decline as is usual for the season. Spring calves have hit the ground and are turned out. Grazing calves are also turned on grass, and very few fall calves are left to sell. New crop calves in the south are a ways away from being ready to cash in. So, it looks like some leisure, maintenance, or clean up time is in place at the old sale barn.
