Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - Packer Day

Planters are on a roll and moving cattle is not a priority, so the numbers at the sale barn are small and will remain that way until the seeds are in the ground. Some wet weather would be welcome for farming and would likely improve cattle movement.

Fed cattle failed to reach the $1.30 mark for the first time in a long while topping at $128.50.

Slaughter Steers and Heifers       62 Head

                   Choice 2-4                     $1.24-$1.26

                            High Yielding       $126-$128.50

                            Low Yielding       $121-$126

          Mixed Select/Choice 2-3       $118-$125

          Select 1-2                            $120 and down

Slaughter cows were much weaker, but the kind wasn’t the best to determine the real market as the majority of the offering were old, weak, or very full. Getting a handle on the true market was very difficult.

50 Head                             High Yielding       Av and low Yielding

Premium Whites (inc heiferettes) $95 to $115

Breakers                         $71 to $80 (for the very few offered)

Boners                                     $75 to $81.50              $65 to $74

Lean                                         $75 to $81                    $65-$74

(we had several more weak and slow cows than usual in the #40’s and $50’s)

Bulls  (12 head)  The mature high yielding brought  from $98.50 to $108. Smaller bulls fell between $86 and $82 and $87.
