Tuesday, December 1, 2015 - Packer Day/Bred Cow Sale

270 Bred cows sold in tonight's special cow sale.  Included were 116 front end Angus and Simmental/Angus bred heifers.  Average weight as 1215#, and average price was $1990 selling in a range of $1750 to  a top of $2300.  The fancy front end young black cows brought from $1850 to $2300 with a few up to $2750.  Small framed or older cows had very little support from the weak slaughter market.  The small premium they brought above slaughter price was far below what we've been seen for the past two years.

Prices for the best bred heifer and front end cows were $800 to $1,000 below last year and anything but the best were off even more.

Post Thanksgiving run consisted of 250 fed cattle and 235 cull cows.  Compared to last week slaughter steers and heifers sold mostly 2.00 higher.  Top was 127.50.

The cow trade was active with lean and boning cows firm to 2.00 higher with fat cows weak to 2.00 lower!
