Special cow Sale Saturday January 24, 2015----Market report
295 bred females were sold to a standing room only crowd by two of the best auctioneers in America, Brian Curless and 2014 LMA World Champion Blaine Lotz. The weather cooperated and it was a great day at Fairview sale Barn.
There were only two older cows in the entire sale and the quality overall was excellent. Buyers recognized this and responded very aggressively. Four groups of heifers were sold. The two bigger groups were most popular with buyers because they were larger fra...med and in top calving shape. These weighed from 1150# to 1300# averaging 1180# proving once again that buyers want size in their replacements without them being too fat. The two other groups of heifers offered were plenty good enough, but were on the thin side and didn’t show quite enough bloom averaging only 1030#.
• For the 5th year the Kocher Family brought the labors of a year’s work to Fairview Sale Barn and were well rewarded for their management skills, reputation, and the quality of their product. Repeat buyers were everywhere in the arena trying to duplicate previous purchases knowing what these heifers have done for them in the past. Top price for three outstanding heifers was $4050 per head. 65 head in the consignment topped $3000 per head and the average for all 92 head in the consignment was $3166.
• From the Clover Farms came 66 head of equal quality black heifers managed the very best and selected specifically to become cows. These heifers came to Steve from two sources and had a very uniform Angus type look with excellent hair and will make outstanding ‘momma’ cows. These topped at $3400 for 6 head weighing 1275#. The average for the 66 head was $2750 and would have much more except for a few lighter ones bringing less.
• 34 heifers in two separate consignments had enough quality, but weighed less because of being thin. These averaged 1030# with some weighing in the 9’s. Top price for these was $2450 and they averaged $2140.
• The Dienst registered Angus cows got a lot of bids with a top of $3600. They averaged $2750 and with a few lesser quality cows off would have easily topped the $3000 mark. This was a very useful group and will present their buyers with top quality calves. Another group of highly bred registered Angus cows averaged $2800. One fancy registered Simmental bred heifer brought $3450.
• 72 commercial young bred cows in the 2nd and 3rd trimester averaged $2850 with a $3600 top and a $2300 bottom.
