Market Report Tuesday January 7, 2014
Snow packed roads, blowing snow, and evil wind chill wiped out the morning
slaughter sale. But, the evening bred cow sale went on as scheduled and a
surprising number of buyers were in attendance. The two dispersions had
quite a few more older cows than expected, but everything sold well. Young
black cows were quite popular, especially those with good size and in the 3rd
stage of pregnancy.
The biggest and best bred heifers ranged from $1850 to $2050 and 20 head of
similar 3rd stage young cows up through six years old sold from
$2000 to $2250. As usual, older cows were up and down according to size and
quality. Prices for the best big older spring calving cows brought a premium
to slaughter price of $50 to $150.
