C.A.B.  Feeder Sale

1978 cattle today.  Buyers were plentiful and action was fast paced for all sizes.  Quality and condition were the best on most of the cattle with the eight load lots of steers selling at a fast clip.  This sale proves the importance of weaning, castration and vaccinating. Excellent producer management was obvious and bull selection by them really came to the front with over 100 head selling above $2.00 a pound.  It pays big time to buy a good bull and manage his product. Over 90% of today's cattle fit this category and those producers deserve a huge pat on the back for their contribution to our business of producing top quality meat cattle for the consumer.

Less than 10% of the cattle sold today fit the following:
A few top quality calves carried excess flesh and some were dirty.  A small percentage had too much of the"club calf" look. (These are not popular with cattle feeders because they are not popular with packers---so, if show cattle bulls are used one should not expect to compete with the traditional most popular feeding breeds for top prices when selling feeder cattle.). A consignment or two needed a different bull---all of the above were less popular with the buyers and sold at lesser figures when compared to all the high dollar cattle offered.
