Market Overview Nov 6, 2015

1062 Head were in the auction this week. The market was steady for everything except slaughter bulls which were once again a couple of bucks lower. With the harvest over feeder buyers continue to increase at the sale barn and are buying cattle although at much lower figures than a year ago. If the price is right there are plenty of bidders. All the slaughter buyers continue to attend, but Packers continue to keep a tight leash on them. There seems to be plenty of slaughter cattle available and none of them are overly aggressive because of this.

297 Fed Cattle sold on a steady market compared to a week ago. Higher yielding choice cattle were mostly in a range of $130.50 and $134.75 with some of the very best at $135.00 to $136.50. Low yielding choice followed from $127.00 to $130.50. Selects brought $126 and down.

486 Cows sold with 205 head weighed up for slaughter. The best yielding had premiums going for $113 to $124. Breakers sold from $80 to $90.50. Boners saw a market of $80 to $94.50 and lean cutters fell in between $76.50 to $84.50.

The Wyatt Green dispersion of registered Angus cows had the very best 24 head selling from $2400 to a top of $4100.

Young black commercial cows in the 3rd stage brought from $1800 to $2300. Middle of the road cows with some size and eye appeal ranged from $1500 to $1800. Smaller or older bred cows brought $1450 and down.

42 cow/calf pairs topped at $2950.00 with most of the very best from $2000 to $2800 averaging $2150.
